It’s been a wild ride so far and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support. Whether it’s taking the time to read a post or listening to an episode, I’m very grateful. I hope that you’ll continue to engage with our content.
Sababoosh has been around for more than 6 months already and we’re just getting started. I’d really love to hear your ideas and what you’d be most excited to learn about or a guest who you’d like to listen to and get to know. When considering who would be an exciting guest - think big! You never know who might be willing to join for an episode.
This summer has been a productive one for us at Sababoosh and that is hugely thanks to Sarina Amar, our intern this summer.
Sarina accomplished a whole lot in the less than two months she was in Israel. She revamped our Instagram page, helped a lot with research on guests, and worked tirelessly on a lot of special projects that are still under our sleeves. Sarina’s contributions have already made an impact that will go far.
Thank you, Sarina!
And now for a look into the next few weeks!
We have three episodes coming up and they will round out our first season. We will then take a break over the chagim and come back strong in November. This leaves some time for growth and learning. If you’d like to have your writing about Israeli culture published, please don’t hesitate to send it over.
Coming up on Tuesday:
Dorit is an award-winning author whom Tablet called the “Wonder Woman of New Israeli Literature”.
One claim to fame for Dorit is that her book, “All the Rivers”, was chosen to be on the Israeli high school curriculum, but was removed by the Minister of Education at the time, Naftali Bennett. The story focuses on an Israeli woman (modeled after Dorit) who falls in love with a Palestinian man in New York City.
Dorit’s parents come from Iran and she has written about her Persian heritage.
I’m excited to explore her writing and influences, and I hope you’ll tune in!
Coming up the following week…
Aleeza rose to fame after she starred in the Netflix series, Jewish Matchmaking. If you haven’t seen it, I can vouch that it’s quite entertaining and looks at Jews from across the spectrum with a variety of backgrounds. Aleeza sets these singles up on dates and the viewer becomes a fly on the wall.
We’ll discuss dating trends and behavior in Israel and how it compares to America.
And finally…
Our Season Finale
I’ve personally been waiting for the Music episode for months. I’ve sent WhatsApp messages and emails to the managers and PR people of pretty much every Israeli singer I could think of. I should have tried savtas as that usually works. As much I love many aspects of Israeli culture, music has always had a special place in my heart.
Out of graciousness, we will be joined by a very talented and beloved singer by the name of Ivri Lider.
Song of the Week
זכיתי לאהוב
Zeh-chee-tee leh-eh-hoev
I was fortunate to love
This is a classic from Ivri Lider in preparation for the season finale in a couple of weeks. His voice is soft and brings a certain amount of warmth. Ivri has already had an impressive career and has many fans in Israel and abroad.
Slang of the Week
צ’יפס עליך
Chips uh-leh-chuh
French fries on you
This is the Israeli way of saying ‘jinx, you owe me a soda’ when two people say the same thing at once.
